51 plate, Mk 2,1.9 TDI. I was driving along yesterday at about 70 in the old Galaxy when suddenly there was a vibration as if I had a puncture. I slowed down to the point where I could tell it wasn't a puncture but having recently changed both driveshafts, I thought it was a CV joint gone. I pulled over and stopped and instantly realised the vibration was from the engine, and not the drivetrain and thought, S**T, this is going to be expensive. It was as if the engine was running on 3 cylinders, and the vibration was unbearable, like being in a washing machine. I switched her off, and started thinking about getting towed home, when I tried to start her up......and she started with no vibration and run as sweet as ever. So could this of been a blockage in an injector that cleared when the engine was switched off, or could the computer of brought this on due to a malfunction of some sort. I have driven about 100 miles since it happened, with no repeat, so am I out of the woods, or is this the start of something expensive?

Intermittent connector in Injector Wiring loom. Relatively common. New Wiring loom or clean and adjust the receptacles in the injector connectors (which unfortunately are under the rocker cover) Obviously it may not be enough of a problem to need sorting immediately.

So it's rocker cover off, and clean up some sort of wiring connectors under the cover, is this an easy DIY job?

Try your VW dealer for the new loom if you decide to get a replacement. I had exactly the same problem but I immediately went to a Ford dealer for it and parted with £120. Found out later the same part would of been £70 from VW. Only problem is they couldn't guarantee it was the right part as it was going in a Ford but they would of given a refund it it was incorrect. Its worth a punt. Job is ok to do. Just one or two of the nuts on the back of the rocker cover really fiddly. Cheers

I tackled the injector loom today and thanks to you guys on here, there were no unexpected problems. Pipes was bang on with the costings, with Fords wanting

It seems that you guys know this part to be prone to failure, but what actually goes wrong with it?

Most likely the connector receptacles open up over time with the vibration and become either loose or prone to oil containment causing either a poor or intermittent connection. Other possibility are receptacle crimps become insecure or wires break internally.

Just an update on the Injector loom problem, it's been a couple of weeks since I changed the loom and so far no problems, fingers crossed to the end of that saga!
