Galaxy newbie Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 As above, Haynes reckons 85oc, so ran car to 88-89 and bottom rad hose was still cold, this after fitting a brand new stat. Is the Haynes wrong. Thanks. Andy Quote
chrispb123456 Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 I would say 85 is the start to open temperature with fully open being considerably higher, bottom hose staying cool is quite normal unless engine is under heavy load/motorway driving. Quote
Galaxy newbie Posted June 21, 2013 Author Report Posted June 21, 2013 How will I know if the stats working then Chris, I can't physically drive the car as it has no t&t? Quote
Galaxy newbie Posted June 21, 2013 Author Report Posted June 21, 2013 Forgot to mention at that temp what I can feel of the rad is still cold also Quote
chrispb123456 Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 Hi Andy Your be hard pushed to get the engine hot enough at idle for the stat to open fully, is it overheating then or some other issue. Quote
Galaxy newbie Posted June 21, 2013 Author Report Posted June 21, 2013 No Chris, no overheating issues( at present) just changed all the fluids and wanted to make sure the antifreeze had fully circulated around the system. Am getting warm/hot air through the vents it's just on my mk1 that I'm still driving the radiator NEVER gets warm. Quote
seatkid Posted June 24, 2013 Report Posted June 24, 2013 (edited) Normal - unless its a hot day and your working the car really really hard. It is a big radiator and the diesel is very efficient, and you also have a big interior heating circuit going to the back of the car, bottom hose is the cool end of the circuit. My car usually only gets lukewarm top hose (hot end) unless on motorway/heavy load. IIRC my original stat had 83 deg stamped on it. Edited June 24, 2013 by seatkid Quote
