hi all newby here. i have an 02 1.9tdi galaxy which has just started to overheat on certain journeys. When its under pressure. Garage diagnosed the thermostat but i am going to change it myself. I cant find any pictures of where it is without having to buy a manual. Does anyone have any pictures showing what i am looking for?i have looked at all the forums and they are a bit confusing. I am going to start with the thermostat and see from there?

thanks

Not a very good pic but gives you an idea of location, if you follow the bottom hose to the block you will find it.

Once you remove the two bolts and stat you will be able to see the rear of the water pump, check the impeller is secure as the have a habit off slipping on the shaft or even disintegrating completely.

Hi ...Hope it is/was your Water thermostat. I would put money on ref  ... water pump impeller parting off shaft. as said above.. Its an standard inherent Vw fault on these type engines.best  fit a pump with metal impeller.not like original plastic crap... i had same problem.

My money is on the water pump - happened to me in Austria. Garage told me it was a thermostat (100 Euros), got it changed.

Still overheating.

Limped to Germany, Ford garage Germany in wanted 1000 Euro for water pump !!!!!!

Best way to check water pump - check if both top and bottom hoses are pressurised.

If they are soft - impeller failure on the water pump !!!!!!
