nexsuperne Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 Hi, my 2001 galaxy temperature gauge is doing strange things. It reads normal temp for some of the time, but not all of it. Its like its only seeing the water temp when the thermostat opens. I put my bluetooth obd2 with Torque on it, and according to the ecu, it is swinging between -38c and 95c when warm. Any guesses please? Also, what should the maf be reading? Thank you Quote
chrispb123456 Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 Probably needs a new coolant temperature sensor (common fault) Quote
nexsuperne Posted May 6, 2013 Author Report Posted May 6, 2013 Hi Chrispb123456, thanks for the reply. Whereabouts is the coolant sensor on these engines? Quote
chrispb123456 Posted May 7, 2013 Report Posted May 7, 2013 The picture is a view from the rear of the engine, note the exhaust manifold in the picremoval of the fuel filter and air charge pipe will give access. Quote
ghr Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 Same thing happened on mine (115 psi diesel). Changed the temperature sensor then all okay. As usual I went to Volkswagen dealer for the part; seem to remember it was cheaper than Frauds but VW don't guarantee the part as it's not fitted to a Sharan; small price to pay in my book. Bit of work getting to it from the top. It's held in place with a horseshoe clip that slides in from the bottom. Danger of dropping this into the depths on refitting - tie a length of cotton to it before refitting so you can retrieve it if you do drop it. Quote
