540man Posted April 25, 2013 Report Posted April 25, 2013 Hi, I have a prob with my boot lid. It first wouldn't open, and now it unlocks itself sometimes when I first close it, but it has started to do it when I press the brake!!!Well it's more like when I take my foot off the pedal the motor on the boot turns and opens it! Has anyone got any ideas? Quote
seatkid Posted April 25, 2013 Report Posted April 25, 2013 Check the wires in the two rubber gaitors to the tailgate, broken and shorted wires are a known common problem. chrispb123456 Posted April 25, 2013 Report Posted April 25, 2013 A different scenario but check the wiring through the rubber gaiter, you probably have some broken/chaffed wiring (common issue) Quote

540man Posted April 25, 2013 Author Report Posted April 25, 2013 Great thanks guys will check it on weekend. Quote
Argrdnr Posted April 26, 2013 Report Posted April 26, 2013 I had that on my galaxy, but when I locked the car the boot opened, found 8 wires had been cut by the metal, so fixed them all. All working now. Quote
540man Posted April 27, 2013 Author Report Posted April 27, 2013 Thanks for replying, opened up the gator and somebody had already done a bit of a poor repair. So I actually redone all the cables from the lower light cluster by the jack all the way up to the light cluster on the boot lid! Supriesingly the panels all went back on there original clips, changed the blown fuse and glow plug light has stopped flashing and everything on the bootlid is working fine. Happy days! Thanks guys! The glow plug light flashing is a common issue with the brake pedal switch (why on earth they chose that is anyones guess). looks like you have found another possible cause this time though. Quote
seatkid Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 The glow plug light flashing is a common issue with the brake pedal switch (why on earth they chose that is anyones guess). looks like you have found another possible cause this time though. On basic diesel models there is no (maxidot) display available to communicate a fault, so on diesel models, the flashing glowplug light has been used to indicate problems that potentially have safety implications have been picked up by the ecu (e.g. brake light operation). There are probably several faults that can trigger the glowplug flashing light, but other faults that are not safety related probably dont flash the light. No idea what petrol engined models would do with a brake switch/wiring fault. Quote
BrianH Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 I'd guess nothing so the first you'd know would be when someone told you or ran into the back of you? Guess it depends if it uses the same switch as well as it may not be able to detect it in the same way as the diesel ones. Quote
