Hi Guys

My rear brake pads need changing as i have done 54,000 miles on em, and the Fraud dealer tells me they are 90% worn.

Is this a job that a "reasonable" DIYer van do, or should it be left to the experts??

I didn't realise until i was told that the Mklll's don't have brake pad warning lights on them, whereas my Mkll did.

As this is the case, and there is no warning light to reset, is the replacement of the rear pads an easy job???

Cheers   Dave

Yep simple job. Just need a tool from Halfords or the like to wind the piston back and these can be used on many motors so will soon pay for themselves.

While you are there check that the piston seals are OK and that the disc thickness is within spec

You say universal, but you can buy left handed or right handed tools, so I don't understand your reply, sorry.

I don't intend on buying a tool from Halfunks who charge extortionately!

I bought a universal kit from eBay for about £20 and it fits almost all makes of car and makes the job so easy, simply clip on, select right piston fitting from the kit, and torn the bolt with a wrench, literally a 2 minute job.
