torvil Posted April 22, 2013 Report Posted April 22, 2013 Yesterday whilst the wife was driving she stated the 2004 130hp ASZ engine cut out whilst travelling at around 50mph. She told me there were no apparent noises or smoke. It would start, turns over but just doesn't fire with still no unusual noises (lack of compression etc)The RAC guy comes, drags it home and says the turbos broken. He unloads it from van, removes the big oil pipe and it runs enough for him to park it on our drive. It runs very rough without the pipe connected, but when I replace it, the car just will not start again. Can anyone help? chrispb123456 Posted April 22, 2013 Report Posted April 22, 2013 Not sure what you mean by big oil pipe? The turbo not working for what ever reason would not stop the engine starting!! Did he check for any stored fault codes? Sounds more likely timing is out!! Quote
torvil Posted April 22, 2013 Author Report Posted April 22, 2013 The large pipe is the one from the inter cooler at the front offside of the engine. It does suggest timing slip but why would it run with this pipe removed? Quote
chrispb123456 Posted April 22, 2013 Report Posted April 22, 2013 Ah right, thats the air charge pipe, instead of removing pipe try disconnecting MAP sensor from the pipe and see if it starts? Quote
torvil Posted April 22, 2013 Author Report Posted April 22, 2013 MAF sensor disconnected...no change. With the air pipe removed it starts just about and idles rough for around 4 seconds before it cuts out. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted April 22, 2013 Report Posted April 22, 2013 Um that is strange unless there's a blockage in the air filter/inlet.How long since last cam belt change? & service etc, just trying to build a picture of how the car has been looked after. Stored fault codes may also help with diagnosis. Quote
a18nkd Posted April 22, 2013 Report Posted April 22, 2013 I would say it sounds like the air filter blocked??? which side of the intercooler is ''the big oil pipe'' off and if there is oil in the intercooler there is a problem with turbo (possibly oil bearing in turbo gone) a bit odd that it won't run unless this pipe is off maybe a pic of this pipe would help !!! torvil Posted April 23, 2013 Author Report Posted April 23, 2013 OK diagnoses proved that turbo was obliterated. Just trying to source recon unit. Best prices so far are the wrong side of £350 and harbour at £230 eeeekk!! Quote
