DaveJH Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 Galaxy 2005 TDi 150bhp 1200k miles. Runs well (at present), uses no oil. Good mpg. On cold start seems to fire on one cylinder only before others reluctantly start up. Good size cloud of while smoke tinged with blue which dissipates as engine starts up, some white smoke until warmed up. Otherwise fine except good cloud of muck when accelerating hard in lower gears, such as joining motorway. First thoughts were faulty glow plugs, and possibly dirty injectors, so purchased a low cost (Memoscan u281 for VAG group vehicles ) received and used today Two engine error codes shown: 19463 01/02 which google search shows as Camshaft Position Sensor17571 02/02 which google search shows as Fuel Temperature Sensor My query is - are these likely to account for the symptoms If so, which to fix first based on being easier/more likely to fix the problem. Also, is either of there faults serious in the sense of requiring urgent attention. Any advice welcome DaveJH Quote
inchley313 Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 Give it a run and plug it in again. If both codes come back up then replace both the sensors. Another posibility is that the timing is out. That would account for the rough running and the face the cam sensor in not in sync with the crank sensor. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 Yep clear the codes and go for a drive then recheck as disconnecting these sensors with engine running would register a fault. Are you due a cam belt change as this would be my first port of call. Quote
DaveJH Posted April 11, 2013 Author Report Posted April 11, 2013 inchley, chrispb Thanks for your relies - will do - as soon as I get the car back from trip to south of England. Also thanks for your reminder that cam belt due for replacement at the 120k interval which is coming up. Seems sensible to accelerate the service and get the sensors and cam belt sorted in one go.
