Folks

Looking at vag com leads on eBay for my 2002 Galaxy TDi auto. There seems to be a few different types and many don't mention the Galaxy or Alhambra compatibility explicitly and some mention they are not suitable for diesels.

Can anyone tell me which type of lead will be compatible with my oil burner auto?

Cheers

Dave

hi everyone.

I have a ford galaxy 1997 2.0 petrol. I got this same lead from ebay, but have tried everything to get it to work with vag com and failed.

any advice please? have tried three laptops and my desktop, all the port changes and driver changes.

I think this cable just doesn't do the job for this year of car.

the message I got was, (port ok, device not found) and that was plugging it into the car aswell. tried everything.

hi again clive. eemmm I wonder would this work on my car?. what year is your car clive?

was looing at this checker, but when I contacted the seller he said it wont do my car and he doesn't know of anything that will do it.

I think it must be the year of my car. most checkers/code clearing devices are for around 2000 2002 cars I noticed.

thanks again guys...

clive is your car a ford? I had a look at the one you posted the link to and it says its for,  VW Audi Skoda Seat.

I have two problem lights on dash. one is the airbag light and the other is temperature light flashing.

I changed the squib ring under steering wheel, because the original squib ring broke when I got the steering wheel changed, so I need to clear the light,

and I need to find out the problem with the temperature light flashing.

You need a vag com lead for yours for the airbag and the normal obd reader for the other fault. i've got a 98 2.0 petrol and the engine bits being ford won't talk to vcds but airbag etc does.

I found airbag to be particularly picky to talk to, you have to have the ignition on first as well.It may be worth changing the port thats being used by the cable in device manger and then changing vcds to suit (some ports may not work due to whats already on the system in the way of built in serial ports or usb devices). I'd try setting it to com2 first. the cable i got was marked KKL Vag-com for 409.1

The reader you show above in your link should see the engine faults though.

thanks for the info Brian. I did try changing the ports, and baud rate to 9600, and I think I tried vcds lite from rosstech. but think I used rosstech driver...  I will try it again as you have said and see what happens.

again thanks m8. I got a lend of a scanner today a (D900 VER 2012,, EOBD/OBD11) set it for ford,, scanned and it said, (no dtcs are presently stored in vehicles computer) but im guessing that model only works on 2002 and up,

that's why it was showing no faults.

just checked that model on ebay (d 900 scanner) it says it works on 96 and up fords,   so I cant understand why it didn't read any of the 2 faults on my dash.

mybe its just an ebay thing to get more sales? I don't know!

the airbag fault isn't an obd fault - its not looking at the airbag module (i'd suspect that one can't do so). The other fault (the flashing temp light) may not be seen as a fault. You will need vcds access and yes as you said above using ross tech drivers won't work unless its a Ross tech interface (If its an ebay lead then it probably isn't a Ross tech interface)

Is it the red light above the gague? only time i've had that come on was when the water bottle was empty (I have had issues with heater matrix leaking or at least i assume thats what was leaking as couldn't find any sign of a leak. Stopped mine with radweld eventually). The diagnostics aren't perfect anyway they can miss things being faulty but are a good place to start.

Theres a float switch on the actual expansion bottle - i'd start looking there for the temp light if its that one.

Brian the red light is just below the gague. it ran out of coolant/water when someone had a lend of it, and when I got it back the light was on. I checked the expansion bottle and it was empty.

the car was over heating, but does not seem to be over heating now, but the light is flashing.  im thinking with it overheating one of the sensors have gone, either the main sensor on the engine, or the expansion bottle sensor

I have got a new sensor for the engine just incase and will be fitting it soon.

the expansion bottle sensor is not replacable, I would have to replace the bottle as fare as I know.

everthing you said makes sence about the obd not reading the faults. I am trying to get the vag kkl  409.1 lead to work at the minute on my laptop, heres hoping.

I will install it as you have advised and see if I can get it working.

thanks for the advice  and help Brian, im sure I,ll be back looking for more help lol.

I can't remeber now i think about it if mine flashed when empty or stayed lit. I think it was flashing. It shouldn't run out of water though - if the level is dropping its being lost somewhere and you really need to find where that is. I'd hazard a guess if you can't see it that its likly to be the heater - can you smell anything when using the heater on the hot setting? Like I said above I "Fixed" mine with radweld (not really fixed just bodged until I can get round to actually getting to it to fix it). I was recommended to try K-seal (similar product to radweld) on the logic that it was worth a try to avoid having to remove the matrix.

And that light doesn't show any error code from what i remember. Doubt that you will need to change the sensor more likly its either stuck somehow or not connected properly as chris mentioned above.

Maybe your dashboard is different to mine, or maybe my memory is getting worse. The car is 130 miles away at the moment so I can't even look to check!

I refilled with water to see if there was any leaks after it overheating and running out of water, the water is still at same level, and no leaks.

this light only started flashing when the car had run out of water in the expansion bottle, but as I said, refilled and water level staying where I filled it to, but light still flashing.

and never had radweld in the system at any time, but I will clean the sensor in expansion bottle anyway. just cant get this light to go off.

thanks guys for the replys

thanks for the help on this guys.

think its just going to have to be left in somewhere, and hit with a heavy price tag.

I have tried everything I can, and no luck.

but again thanks very much for the help.
