MASTIFF38 Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 Hi all, First post so please be gentle. First Galaxy and so having some fun checking what its got. Just bought 2004 1.9tdi Ghia 115ps yesterday and have found a couple of things I need clarifying. 1) If I was to replace standard steering wheel with one with controls on would the electrics already be in place?2) Its got the leccy rear window/vent on O/S, N/S window moves when pushed - So again if I get a switch for the N/S will electrics already be in place?3) Got the multi-media kit with twin screens. But no power! Have checked the fuse under dash and its ok. Any ideas greatly appreciated. Cheers Rob Quote
SilverBeast Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 1) No there is a lot more to it than that. It involves extra bits and reprogramming the dash. 2) I don't think the near side should move or open. The exhaust for the auxillary heater is that side so it isn't intended to open. 3) Don't know about this. ...and welcome to the site. I suggest you look through the Frequently Asked Questions to get an idea of what you may have to look forward to!!! I did before I bought mine and this site is one of may main sources of information and has saved me a fortune. Quote
MASTIFF38 Posted April 7, 2013 Author Report Posted April 7, 2013 Cheers for the bad news. . As for the rear window it has the round black plastic fitting which you find with the manually opening windows and it gives a little when pushed, as does the O/S one. Confused now but accept your reasons for it not opening, that obviously makes sense. Cheers Rob Quote
MASTIFF38 Posted April 7, 2013 Author Report Posted April 7, 2013 Hi just checked the manual and the section referring to the electric windows says ' Power rear vent windows' Also shows two switches one either side of the gear stick. So I can assume that it will power open just need to know whether or not the electrics are already in place. Reason I ask is that over the years I have found that the LR disco TD5 has most of the wiring for the extras in place ready for the orders from new customers. CheersRob Quote
seatkid Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 Does your car have the full dual zone climate control? - this can be seen by the presence of roof vents over the passenger seats in the rear (not just a dual LCD display). In that case, only one side rear quarter window will open electrically as the pillars that normally carry the harness are filled with a/c piping instead. Quote
MASTIFF38 Posted April 8, 2013 Author Report Posted April 8, 2013 Hi seatkid. Yes to your question and thankyou to your explanation. But why didn't they fix the window in place, just seems like an easy access point to me. Obviously it is not just landrover that do very strange things to their cars. cheers Rob Quote
SilverBeast Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 (edited) In that case, only one side rear quarter window will open electrically as the pillars that normally carry the harness are filled with a/c piping instead. Makes more sense than the exhaust. The pillar on the near side contains the air channel that feeds the roof vents with the cooled air as seatkid says. Just behind that is a joint for the rear wash-wipe pipe - I know because mine separated there (as well as in the "usual" place by the front passengers feet) in the particularly cold spell we had a couple of years ago! It's a swine to get at and rejoin! Edited April 8, 2013 by SilverBeast Quote
MASTIFF38 Posted April 8, 2013 Author Report Posted April 8, 2013 This is starting to sound all to familiar. Had that on the Disco. So glad the Galaxy ain't got a sunroof as well. Rob On a separate note and sorry to change the subject ...But I am having trouble trying to pin down exactly what I need for cam-belt and water pump change. So far I have a list of:Timing beltWater pump + gasketTensioner pulleyidleraccessory drive belt? Problem is all the kits I have looked at all look completely different. Am I right in thinking my engine code is AUY. Haven't got belt cover so no sticker. Cheers Rob Quote

MASTIFF38 Posted April 11, 2013 Author Report Posted April 11, 2013 Hi, thanks very much. Work all done. eventually cost £250. Needed a new fan belt as well. The old cam-belt was in a worst state than a tarts tights, I still can't believe it got me back from Derby. Also does anyone know whether the factory fitted water pump had a plastic or metal impeller. Old one had metal and was showing signs of a leak. No history of it being changed before I had it and its only done 85,000. Cheers Rob Quote
