Hi all.  Cross post from my OBD question just asking if anyone has any insight into my engine problem.

I have a Galaxy Mk1 2.3 petrol that's running as if it's only using 3 cylinders but it's not, it's using all 4 because I can remove each HT lead and little changes.  The idle is very rough and goes up and down, nearly stalls then climbs high again.  During driving it stalls, is very low powered and seems very sick.  I get the feeling it's a sensor or vacuum fault but can't see or hear anything obvious.

Any wisdom welcome.

Thanks
Paul.

I had a similar issue. I found it to be a coil pack even though I did the same as you removing ht leads. I have had to replace two of these packs now and even the ht lines and fingers to the plugs. Coil packs are cheaper from euros or other outlets but they don't last. I bit the bullet after finding this out and bought Ford ones.

As said before, coil packs just don't last, I always carry a spare under drivers seat with the correct tools to do the job.

Lpg does tend to kill them from what i've seen generally. Out of interest are yours the 2.3 type where they sit ontop of the plug or the ones that sit on the end of the engine with leads? (the 2.0 ones i gather). I'm still having issues with what i think is ignition problems and getting to thinking of just changing the plugs leads and packs to try and rule out any of them causing issues but trying to find somewhere with reasonable quality ones that actually match - Alot of the pictures i can find of ones i can buy online are completely wrong showing a 4 port single unit whereas i have two double port units.

I have the ones that sit on top of the plug, but hay what a stupid design to put them where it's hot so they bake themselves to death. When I converted to Lpg I was advised to change packs, plugs n leads as it's critical to get a good spark, so I fitted bosh coil packs and put 3 prong plugs in, what a difference that made, always looking for economy if possible but still got poke if needed!

Try changing the plugs on the 2.0l - You can't see them properly and have to come from the back of the engine!

Hi.  Sorry been away from the internet for a while.  Mine is a 2.3 with the double coil packs over the top of the plugs 2 and 4.  I had to change them about a year ago.  They do still seem to work.

This weekend I connected a cheap ebay code reader and whilst it wont report any error codes (because it's too old for proper OBD) in the live data window it does show the error

Fuel Sys1 OL FAULT.

Looking around I can find little or nothing helpful.

Any thoughts?

I'd look at the connections to your fuel injectors. Its possible ones failed although unlikly. More possible that its not plugged in correctly or damage to the connector.

You should also find that it is able to report error codes, even given its older than the requirments to do so. If theres none reported/found It suggests it hasn't detected anything wrong (which isn't unusual)

Check your crankcase ventilation valve, it's well hidden under exhaust manifold under it's own heat shield, there is an L shaped rubber hose that splits and draws air in.

Thanks I'm hoping it's something cheap and simple like this.  I'll report back.
