Tracym Posted March 29, 2013 Report Posted March 29, 2013 I have just purchased a galaxy zetec 1.9 TDI and going uphill and overtaking it's losing power occasionally unless I turn engine on/off which resolves it for a while. I have no indicator lights , no black smoke. I have been told it has been fitted with a performance chip. Any ideas what it could be ? Quote
chrispb123456 Posted March 29, 2013 Report Posted March 29, 2013 Certainly sounds like you have a boost problem, this resets by stopping and restarting the engine. To confirm over or underboost you will need to check which fault codes have been stored.Unless you got the car for nothing take it back and tell them to sort it out as it may need to turbo to be cleaned/replaced. gregers Posted March 29, 2013 Report Posted March 29, 2013 if you have bought from a dealer then under the sale of goods act you have 28 days to inform them about any problems you have this does not affect any warranty you may have.a lot of garages sell cars with problems then claim under the warranty from what i understand when i had problems this is a no no,its down to the garage to sort out. Tracym Posted March 30, 2013 Author Report Posted March 30, 2013 If it is the turbo that needs replacing or repairing then surely it would blow out black smoke which it isn't , the smoke is clean ... Been told it could poss be a hose that needs replacing Quote
chrispb123456 Posted March 31, 2013 Report Posted March 31, 2013 Not necessarily if you have overboost the engine will be getting to much air, you really need to check codes first!! Quote
CM2007 Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 Would be interested in seeing how you get on as I have the same issue. CheersMike Quote
CM2007 Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 Just to let you know, I had mine plugged in yesterday and it came up with "lack of boost" and "faulty mass air flow sensor" so I'm replacing it on Tuesday and hopefully all is well. Mike Quote

CM2007 Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 (edited) Yes i understand that, I'm lucky enough to work in a garage and a couple of the guys have VAG. The fault code has been cleared and I'm going to be driving it around until the fault re occurs but even telling a couple of the guys the symptoms confirmed my theory of either the waste gate valve or the air mass sensor. The fault codes will appear if the plug is disconnected but the symptoms will only appear if the fault is current. I will get it plugged in again on Tuesday to see if the fault re occurs and that will confirm for sure. I know it's in stock so can get it delivered same day if it's confirmed   Mike Edited April 6, 2013 by CM2007 Quote
end of the galaxy Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 Hiours is a 1.9 TDI Auto, it did the same things loss of power, had the turbo cleaned, a waste of money as it did not work, had to replace the turbo. £1000 ouch! Quote
Trislander Posted April 13, 2013 Report Posted April 13, 2013 When u say "cleaned" do you mean reconditioned or actually just cleaned? Quote
jolovite Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 I have the same problem with my 2003 1.9td zetec. It loses turbo pressure and goes into limp mode when under acceleration. I took it back to the garage and they replaced the air flow sensor. This improved the performance at low speeds around town but when on dual carriageways or motorways cruising in 6th at about 70-75 and 2100 revs it went back into limp mode as soon as I tried to accelerate. I took it back to them today 16/5/13 they replaced the air flow sensor again and its done the same as before fine around town but went into limp mode whilst cruising. Quote
CM2007 Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 (edited) Just to update what I put a few weeks ago, I was going to order a new air flow meter after a friend plugged in his diagnostic machine and read the fault "loss of boost pressure, air mass sensor faulty"But I thought I'd check the plug and terminals first. When I did i noticed the clip on the plug which snaps over the little wedge on the sensor had broken off. My theory was that if the plug isn't fitting snug them it will lose the connection and signal causing the fault. I tied a cable tie around the base of the plug on the sensor then looped another through this and around the plug pulling it tight. The plug cannot move and is now held solid, I have not had the fault re occur since and that was over a month ago. A simple fix that cost me nothing! Edited May 16, 2013 by CM2007 Quote
