SilverBeast Posted March 7, 2013 Report Posted March 7, 2013 Flashing glow plug light on the diesel is the engine management fault indication. I suggest you read the fault codes with VCDS-LITE which will give you a better idea of where to look. It's going sluggish because it doesn't trust the sensors and it's going into failsafe or 'limp' mode Quote
gregers Posted March 7, 2013 Report Posted March 7, 2013 do a search on flashing glow plug light,a lot of info should come up. Quote
a18nkd Posted March 7, 2013 Author Report Posted March 7, 2013 hi i just looked for the VCDS-LITE on e-bay does any one know which one i need my lap top runs windows 7 and thanks again Quote
seatkid Posted March 7, 2013 Report Posted March 7, 2013 (edited) 95% certain you have a faulty brake switch. Its a dual switch and if both dont agree the ECU goes into limp mode and flashes the glowplug indicator which indicates "houston, we have a problem" http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?/topic/8351-fitting-a-new-brake-light-switch/&do=findComment&comment=63453 http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?/topic/4538-the-good-old-brake-light-switch/?hl=%2Bchanging+%2Bbrake+%2Bswitch Edited March 7, 2013 by seatkid Quote
a18nkd Posted March 7, 2013 Author Report Posted March 7, 2013 cheers seatkid would the car stay in limp mode untill it's light is knocked off by the VCDS-lite and i have read this brake fault on the mk2's but mine is a mk1 would this still be the problem ? and thanks again. Quote

This is a common fault on both Mk1 and Mk2. On the Mk1 the fault will clear itself as soon as the brake switch is working correctly - no need for VCDS - although if you had it you would see it report "Brake Switch: Implausable signal" i.e. the 2 switches contradict each other.. a18nkd Posted March 8, 2013 Author Report Posted March 8, 2013 right i had the AA out to the car today and he found 00542 needle lift sender try'd to re-set it but this fault came up straight away so he try'd another two time and the same happened but he couldn't find any info on this fault can any one help is this the diesel pump goosed or is there anything that i can do to sort it out and thanks again Quote
seatkid Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 The usual problem with the needle lift sensor is the wiring to it. Follow the wire from the sensor which is part of injector no.1. Check the connectors it goes to, the wire is often broken at this point, sometimes the break is inside the wire so intermittent - check for continuity of the wiring. Quote

a18nkd Posted March 9, 2013 Author Report Posted March 9, 2013 hi all i done as you have said check the wires to the injector with the needle lift sender on that single wire was ok but the two cables that go into the connector on the other side one was really loose and when i touched it it had snapped completly off right where it goes into the connector so had to go to the scrappy's and get a new connector and solder it on the car seems ok but only gone around the block in it do i still have to get the light knocked off or will it just go off it's self and thanks again for everyone's help my lass is due to drop any time now and i need the car to take us to the hospital Quote
