My 2001 Ford Galaxy may need a new wiring harness. I've been told that this has to be ordered from Volkswagen in Germany, and will cost £800 just for the part. I'm trying to locate a less expensive alternative, whether a non-original (compatible) part, or maybe used/from salvage (perhaps too risky).

Any ideas?

Unfortunately, it's the harness. There's a problem with the gears (automatic). The transmission is fine - the electrics person found the problem, which is two wires that have fused together. He's going to have a go at replacing them, but apparently the wiring harness is a bit temperamental and not that conducive to fiddling around with, so he said that if his fix-it-up didn't work, he'd have no option but to replace the whole unit.

Thanks. I hope the fact that an expert has visually inspected it means the rest of the wiring is at least visibly sound. Of course, I also hope I'll win the lottery!
