thumpermike1 Posted January 11, 2013 Report Posted January 11, 2013 Hi, There is a fuse/electrical box uner the cover that hides the battery. I recently had a breakdown and it was discovered that this was the issue, basically it had burnt out. I have replaced the box, but can anyone tell me what the first two wires coming away from this box supply? The second of these is already showing signs of getting hot and i'd like to to know what it supplies? I have a 2004 115bhp TDI. Any help is appreciated. Quote
daddyfixit Posted January 11, 2013 Report Posted January 11, 2013 there are many posts on here---its the auxilary fusebox;the lead from the alternator causes the terminals to overheat as there is a bad connection (resistance) caused by age !! you can sometimes re-solder a new terminal onto the end, and clean all contacts with emery paper before refitting leads. the fusebox is cheaper from ford, not vw the lead from the alternaor is available from ford and other posts give part number and price. thumpermike1 Posted January 11, 2013 Author Report Posted January 11, 2013 Daddyfixt, Thanks for that. Ive got a new box, so i'll take the leads of again and give them a good clean. Cheers Quote
chrispb123456 Posted January 12, 2013 Report Posted January 12, 2013 The first thick cable nearer the battery is the lead to the alternator, the second lead is the power supply to the central junction box (fuse box) inside the car. If the terminals on the cables are still serviceable they should be soldered, or replace terminals either way they need soldering to avoid further problems. Quote
