victor meldrew Posted December 9, 2012 Report Posted December 9, 2012 I have a 99 mk1 tdi and the aux heater doesn't work.I've read lots on here about possible causes so tonight I've been sat in the cold trying to get my vcds lite to communicate with it but it won't.Do I have to buy the full version to check or clear any codes associated with the aux heater or should it connectI'm able to check engine etc so I'm connected to the ecu Quote
chrispb123456 Posted December 9, 2012 Report Posted December 9, 2012 The auxiliary heater on the MK1 is dumb so does not connect with the car's diagnostics, most likely culprit is the glow plug so you will need to remove heater to test/replace once you done that job done, no codes to clear. Quote
viking Posted December 9, 2012 Report Posted December 9, 2012 I assume you are refering to the booster heater. VCDS will not communicate with booster heater on Mk1. As far as I am aware, any fault codes logged will erase when ignition is turned off. To diagnose faults you will need to test with a multi meter at the connector block. Most failures are the glow plug. The diesel dosing pump can fail, terminals corrode. Quote
