Aaron75 Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 (edited) I have a 2003 Ford Galaxy Ghia, Ive been trying to get my auxhillary heater started, the fault codes indicate the flame out and lock out, when i do manage to clear codes it sometimes starts and then fails or just gives out plumes of unburmt diesel signifying glow plug issues. However when I got my mechanic to strip it down, the unit looked nothing like the Eberspacher D5WZ which has the Beru GH002 glow plug. It was cylindrical with the respective Air flow in and exhaust out ports. He stripped it down and couldnt find the corresponding Beru GH002 type glow plug and re assembled back on the car before I had a chance to visit garage and take down part or model no of heater. Can you or anyone advise what type I have, I tried calling the Ford dealers and they stated that apparently I have the glow plug with wires attached that retails at £99.00,. The Ford part number they quoted was 5 TTH 1BD650 AA is there a VW cross reference ? I know from past experience VW/TPS have been 60% cheaper than Ford for spare parts, or alternatively another supplier? Also if the Aux water pump in bulkhead is faulty does it throw up a fault code on VAG COM, its just that no other fault code except for Flame out came up. Thanks In advance Edited November 25, 2012 by Aaron75 Quote
chrispb123456 Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 You can get glow plugs on ebay and the net but you need to confirm which heater you have, if you do decide a dealer is your option then go to VW.As far as i'm aware it was 2004 models onwards had the D5WZ-F model so again you need to confirm in case it's been changed from the original. The run on pump (auxiliary coolant pump) is dumb so will not store a code if it's packed up. Quote
Aaron75 Posted November 27, 2012 Author Report Posted November 27, 2012 How do I remove the glowplug wires from the mutli plug connector that they are connected to. Also how to i check for an open circuit on glow plug? Im not sure whether my multimeters playing up but when i set it on Ohms for resistance it displays O.L and I have tried checking the values across the plug pins for the glowplug and I consistently get 0.000 ? I have checked across the corresponding Male plug on the ECU unit and I got Values 30.7 kohms What does this signify? Quote
acecard Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Yours is probably a 'fluke' multimeter so it is normal to read OL when switching to resistance if the meter terminals are not connected to anything. Simply means open circuit and is normal. Resistance across a glow plug in isolation should be less than about 5 ohms but greater than zero of course. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 Removing wires from multiplug. Each lead has two tangs that need depressing to remove without bending them but if your replacing just pull each wire with a pair of pliers. Quote
