No idea how or why but the fuse to the instument cluste lights (no.28) blew. replaced it but blew as soon as I turned the lights on.

I have removed and disonnected the cluster but still blew again.

Its a 2002 Auto, checked the connection to the gear change and thats ok.

Any ideas where the issue might be.

Not sure if that fuse covers window switch lighting and face vent illumination, if it does then it's likely to be the wiring in the drivers door gaiter.

Do you have any other issues with central locking and electric windows, heated mirrors/mirror adjustment.

Will check the window switches for illumination but windows, cl and everything else works ok (touch wood).

Many thanks for your help, will keep you posted.

Well, its fixed. Basically disconnected both window switches, fuse blew again so ruled them out. Having checked those, the instrument cluster and the gear knob plate (don't know the correct term) bit thats has the PRND12.All that was left was the heater panel. Removed that, disconnected it , replaced the fuse and it was fine but to get to the back I removed the radio and found 2 wires where the cables were exposed. Taped them up, replaced the heater and all is working. Thanks again for taking the time to help. Moral of this story is if a fuse goes buy a pack of ten just to be on the safe side, I have 2 left!!!. Checking your wires under rubber sleve in your tailgate & all doors is also a good place to look.
