steve.cafc Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 Hello everyone, I drive a 2001 Seat Alhambra 1.9tdi se, my air con has packed up again !. Three weeks ago my climate control wasn't working I had the flashing heater display which I had heard was low gas pressure. I had the system flushed and filled on a fancy machine at Formula1. It worked, two weeks driving in Spain and lovely cold air ! Now three weeks later and the climate control has stopped again. This time I have no flashing display. I can hear the two fans at the front kick in, but there's no click or noise from the compressor, the pulley spins freely, so the compressor isn't seized. Is it safe to run a live feed direct to the compressor ! this would eliminate the pressure switch ? Best Regards Steve. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 Then there's most likely a leak on your system which they should have tested before filling with gas.My advice is use a specialist mobile aircon service, I have a number for the north kent area or look in yellow pages. Quote
cos140 Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 (edited) I would agree with Chris.. I had problems with mine and got mine sorted by using a guy who fixes Industrial Air Con and Water chiller units. He vacuumed mine out for 2 hours to get rid of any moisture and contaminants then pressure tested it then filled with gas. He said that there was alot of moisture in the system which was probably caused by the small portable air con unit hat I last used at a mates garage. Works a treat now and temp in middle vents gets to about 6 degrees....a bit warmer in the outer vents at about 7.2 degrees Edited September 12, 2012 by cos140 Quote
gregers Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 i do agree with chris,BUT personally i would be taking my car back to where the SO CALLED SERVICE was carried out and have a bloody good winge at them.and say if they had done the job properly then why has it leaked out???they may well come back and say WELL it was a ok on the day,if so then bad luck and follow advice given by others, :45: Quote
alan_131 Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 No expert but if you can't get f1 to fix it, they might do a pressure test for you. My display flashed when pressure was low (zero according to the machine) and I had a fault on vcds. I think I recall seatkid saying you can just (carefully, and with a fused supply) apply 12v to the compressor to see if it kicks in - just for test purposes. Not quite sure what you mean about the compressor spinning freely so not being seized - if the clutch isn't energised, the pulley should spin freely even if the compressor is stuck fast I'd have thought... Kwik fit did a good job on mine, but certainly not as thorough as a 2hr vacuum out - if there was somebody like that near me,my vote would be with Chris's ... I'd use them even if they were a bit more expensive, especially if I thought there might be issues other than low gas.... Quote
steve.cafc Posted September 13, 2012 Author Report Posted September 13, 2012 Hello everyone. Thank you all for your input. I've been on the formula1 website and read what was supposed to have been done. Seems my system had flush, clean, de moisture, pressure test and re fill. I'll go back to formula1 in Canterbury on Saturday and ask them to do it all again. I'll post what the outcome was. If they say I haven't lost any pressure then I can then concentrate on electricals ! Best Regards Steve. Quote
