f0ster Posted September 9, 2012 Report Posted September 9, 2012 it is a job that can be quite involved, I presume you have a diesel, if you have not done one before there is a lot of things that can go wrong, there are quite a few special tools that are required as well, the job can be done without these tools but it is harder and only for someone who has done one before, if in dought about the timing of the pulleys then put your own marks on the pulleys before you strip it down, and the golden rule, turn it over by hand before operating the starter, and check for tight spots as you turn, you might want to carefully examine the water pump when it is apart, Quote
chrispb123456 Posted September 9, 2012 Report Posted September 9, 2012 Firstly if your using internet explorer as your browser dont, it doesn't work properly with this forum you need to use firefox or chrome. If your changing belt because it's overdue and there's no issues with engine and your pretty competent then you wont need locking tools, what you need to do is mark the pulleys carefully with an adjacent stationary object so when belts replaced and tensioned it's in exactly the same position (all marks in alighnment) Tips. Do not rotate pulleys with belt removed Replace cam tensioner and idler pulley Tension new belt correctly Double check timing is correct before starting. Quote
si.miller Posted September 9, 2012 Author Report Posted September 9, 2012 thamks for the tips, he has done cam belts before just not on the Gal, just tried the link with firefox and the broken link works Quote
a18nkd Posted September 9, 2012 Report Posted September 9, 2012 i have a AHU engine i done mine by my self a few months back the only tool i needed to make was a tool to tention the tentioner back up (old strip of steel with a couple of old small allen keys weldedto it )try'd to follow haynes to do it i only had trouble with the marks on the tentioner it was on about, there is a line between the two holes (where the tentoner tool goes)and a little bit lug on the washer like center bit these two bits have to line up for the correct tention then nip the nut up on the tentioner it is always good practice to turn the engine over by hand to check if it hits/touches the valves p.s i put my own marks on all the pulleys as i didn't have ant locking tools Quote
BigRik13 Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 I found this site today with pretty detailed instructions on changing the AFN timing belt (in French though and admittedly not a Galhambran). http://www.forum-auto.com/pole-technique/mecanique-electronique/sujet333050.htm I was actually looking for pictures of the aux belt routing, but this looked impressive!
