SteveB Posted August 30, 2012 Report Posted August 30, 2012 Hi Guys Just a quick question, my A/C compressor pump has siezed on my 03 Galaxy and I'm looking at around £1000 to get a new one and get it changed. TBH I a) don't have the money and :) sick of pouring money into the damn car only for something else to go wrong, so I'm getting shot of it. In the meantime it's still drivable so long as the aircon doesn't kick in. It has climate control and at the moment I'm running it with everything off so it could be a bit chilly in the next few weeks lol. Is there any way I can disable the aircon so that I'll still have heat but not run the compressor? thanks in advance Steve Quote
chrispb123456 Posted August 30, 2012 Report Posted August 30, 2012 That sounds a bit steep, I bought one for £300 fitted it myself then got mobile chap to vacuum and re- gas under £400 in total. If just the pump has seized and not the pulley then running in ECON will switch off the aircon system or unplug the lead to the aircon pump clutch. If the pulley/clutch has seized you can remove the pulley and fit a shorter belt. Quote
SteveB Posted August 30, 2012 Author Report Posted August 30, 2012 Thanks for that, wasn't sure if ECON switched it off or just put it into a low mode. The pulley is fine, tbh having spent close on £2000 already on it this year and having had at least one major issue every year since getting it ( three years ago , reckon ive bought the car twice now )I'm loathe to spend any more on it. It's a shame as my previous one was almost faultless. Now it's a case of trading it in for something cheap then next year I'm looking at getting a Mazda Bongo ( once the kids have left I'll convert it to a full camper ). Quote
seatkid Posted August 30, 2012 Report Posted August 30, 2012 To be sure, just pull the 2 pin electrical connector off the back of the compressor - this is the 12v feed that powers the clutch, that way it doesnt matter what the climate unit is set to, accidently or otherwise. Note: on random occassions - every few months, my CC will "reset" to AUTO on start up - so I recommend you disconnect the compressor connector for this reason. Quote
