Galaxy newbie Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 Can the above cables be used on a ford galaxy with the 2.0 petrol engine, as I think it's a ford engine and not vw like the diesels. Might be a silly question but just need an answer for a friend. Thanks in advance Andy. Quote
dlt1617 Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 Hi both the programmes will check only the fault memory for the items which are vw so they do not check any engine fault codes as it would need to be able to read Ford codes not vw ones. Best wishes Dave Quote
Galaxy newbie Posted August 28, 2012 Author Report Posted August 28, 2012 Which cable would he need to buy then to read the engine. I have the 1.9 tdi gal and my cable does the lot, but as his a ford engine he needs a different cable, just not sure which one! Quote
chromedome Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 It is not just the cable, you would need Ford diagnostic software as well to interface with the engine. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted August 29, 2012 Report Posted August 29, 2012 Hi Andy You can't use Vagcom when checking Ford engines, but will work on the rest of the car Most people use the Elm 327 hand held scanner for the 2.0 & 2.3 Ford petrol engines. Quote
Galaxy newbie Posted August 29, 2012 Author Report Posted August 29, 2012 Thanks guys for all the help, I'll let him know, and hi Chris how are you doing mate? Quote
sparky Paul Posted August 29, 2012 Report Posted August 29, 2012 The cheapest option is a ELM327 based interface cable, the cheap OBDII/EOBD ones available on that well known auction site work fine. I find ScanTool software the easiest to use and most useful. Quote
