acecard Posted July 17, 2012 Report Posted July 17, 2012 Hi everyone,Last week I had new rear pads fitted by Vauxhall dealer - my gal goes there for annual service as they are a lot more friendly than the local Fords. They identified siginificant wear on the rear pads so I got them changed then. But looking at the rear disks now, about 60% of the outer part of the disk looks normal and shiny, the inner 40% is rusty as if the pads are not making contact there. Same on both rear wheels.Pretty sure they were not like that before the change.welcome any advice before taking it back - don't want to be fobbed off with some lame excuse.Cheers Quote
daddyfixit Posted July 17, 2012 Report Posted July 17, 2012 you have to clean all the crap out of were the pads sit, its baked on brake dust that hardens ! scrape off with a screwdriver and copperslip the pad edges were they rest in the caliper--------if not they wont move out squarely, they will kink over on the caliper were the crap is, brakes will still work but the pads and discs will wear oddly. i will guess that they didnt clean the calipers up before attempting to fit your new pads back in ( knocking them into place with pliers or a hammer), ask can you watch as its dismantled to see if they struggle to pull pads back out to inspect them. acecard Posted July 17, 2012 Author Report Posted July 17, 2012 Thanks for that daddy, will take it back and see what happens.. Quote
Saif Rehman Posted July 18, 2012 Report Posted July 18, 2012 (edited) Also make sure they fitted the right size pads for your model. The problems I incur trying to buy pads for my car are unbelievable. I have now written on the back inside cover of the manual/handbook the correct part numbers for Mintex pads and discs for future reference. Edited July 18, 2012 by Saif Rehman Quote

acecard Posted July 25, 2012 Author Report Posted July 25, 2012 Clearly only 60% of pads were making contact with the disk. Took it back today and proved it to them. Wrong pads! Going back Friday for a different pair - I'll give them a run and see if I like them :40: Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 I'm a bit puzzled. If the pads are not seated correctly then the pad surface will wear unevenly not the discs. I'm surprised you're not getting brake judder. Does your handbrake work and is it releasing properly? Uneven wear on discs usually means buckled discs and judder but on the back you may not notice it. I recently had a strange problem where when driving normally at 40/50 mph I would get an effect rather like driving over a rumble strip. It turned out to be siezed brake cables which were preventing the offside pads releasing properly and the pad was oscillating against the disk. Most confusing, but you may be suffering from a similar problem. Quote

Going back Friday for a different pair - I'll give them a run and see if I like them B)Think I've caused a bit of confusion here. It should have read "100% of the pads are making contact with only 60% of the disks" - pads are the wrong type. Hope this makes it clear - teach me to drink and write Edited July 26, 2012 by acecard Quote
