ARSENAL79PLACE Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) Folks, I have a question for all you fellow Galaxy owners. So i need a towbar for the bus but the Mrs can't reverse without the parking sensors!! So i need to keep it working. I contacted two fitters who said that they would fit a fixed towbar and all i need to do is to remove the bolts from the fixed towbar everytime i don't need it. This seems a bit crazy to me to have a fixed towbar only to unbolt it everytime its not being used. Any thoughts?? Anyhow the third towbar company said no way should you unbolt the fixed towbar constantly. I took the bus to see him. We checked whether the fixed swan neck or flange ball towbar was picked up by the sensors and yes it was. Bummer. So he has suggested a removable towbar fitted with twin electrics for £325. What do you reckon? The fixed towbar at the other places were around £240. All advice appreciated. Edited July 16, 2012 by ARSENAL79PLACE Quote

SilverBeast Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 I have a fixed BRIN K (think it's by Thule) with a swan neck. It has the 13 pin electrics connector which obviously takes up less space than twin electrics. It is set quite far towards the bumper and doesn't affect the Parking Sensors. It was on the car when I got it. If you need twin electrics then there are plenty of adapters on ebay. Quote
traff Posted July 17, 2012 Report Posted July 17, 2012 hi there ..i have a tow bar fitted to mine...fitted it myself....just cover the inner sensors wiith several layers of insulation tape.....it really works......the outer sensors still give plenty of coverage......so sucessfull was this fix ....i also did my mates car.......it really works regards traff Quote
daddyfixit Posted July 17, 2012 Report Posted July 17, 2012 i am putting a fixed bar on mine this week (still awaiting delivery) if the mrs gets it wrong she will cave in the garage door as she reverses, or worse still drag a car out of a parking bay as she does a point turn in her works carpark !!! ARSENAL79PLACE Posted July 18, 2012 Author Report Posted July 18, 2012 Folks, I have ended up going for a twin electrics with a removable Witter towbar fitted for £350. Very happy man. I have just dropped it off for fitting so should be ready early afternoon ish. I will report back once its done and hopefully all will go well. Quote
dbc Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 Jeez, that's steep! I got mine off ebay for 90 quid new.Single electrics with fixed ball.I had to angle the electric socket braket back a little bit so it didn't affect parking and took half a day to fit by myself Quote
ARSENAL79PLACE Posted July 19, 2012 Author Report Posted July 19, 2012 Mybe its a bit steep, but they have done a fab job. Both electric sockets fold underneath the car and nothing can be seen. I could only source the parts for £260 myself. So £90 for fiting all the twin electrics and towbar aint bad IMO. Plus there aint much room around the spare wheel. Quote
daddyfixit Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 i fitted mine in work today, then came home to do the wiring;a fixed ball type off ebay , from a place called p.f jones in manchester £86.70 delivered---bar,ball single electrics kit and warning bleeper !! and as expected, i whacked my shins on it after parking the car up the drive for the night !!! we are going to try camping so i opted for easiest/cheapest in case my kids hate it !!-------roll on thomas cook airlines next summer !!! Lloyd Evans Posted April 1, 2015 Report Posted April 1, 2015 I know this is an old topic but I have "upgraded" the sharan to a galaxy!!! I have retained to tow bar from the sharan (along with all the bits to fit it) however the tow bar and twin electric where an option when the car was new, needless to say I could not remove the electrics to retain for this car So the question is what is the most economical way of fitting single electrics (7 pin plug) to a mk2 galaxy? I have looked at the pct option and it looks ok any other advice would be great Cheers Lloyd Quote
