2005 Gal 1.9 Tdi Wont Start

hi all

been and picked family members up from airport (around 70 mile trip) gal never missed a beat parked up at home for a few hours and wont start turns over but seems like fuel starvation.

any ideas would be appreciated

Clear faults and scan again (some may be old ones). Then repost just the engine faults for now as this is what you need to sort first.

 

(i) When you first turn on the ignition (with drivers window down) and before turning the starter motor can you hear a single "squish" noise from the middle/back of car? This is the fuel pump in the tank pushing fuel to the fuel filter.

(ii) Does the car start and run for a few seconds before cutting out? This can be a sympton of the immobiliser working correctly.

If so did you drop your keys and they came apart, or replace your battery? It is possible the PATS immobiliser chip has come out of the key. Have you a spare key you can try? If the immobiliser is still on then the drivers door LED will still be flashing (I think)

Also check for loss of glow plug warning when switching on ignition and flashing of door LED, could be relay 109 fault.

is the battery turning over the car at a healthy rate, i.e. is the battery on its last legs?

Strange how it runs for 'few minutes then cuts out' - i think fuelling issues. Did you check that your car make that 'squish' noise as mentioned earlier by SilverBeast?

yes started this morning and it ran fine re-scanned and none of previous faults showing

changed relay 109 and it has not made a difference

any ideas.

had battery on charge all day fitted battery and it has run for a couple of hours without a hiccup

could it be a voltage drop in battery?
