BigRik13 Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 Hi My 1.9 TDI AFN Sharan (2000) normally starts on the button, but increasingly, if I switch the ignition off, nip into a shop, then get back in and turn the ignition on, it turns over as normal, but doesn't start. I then sit in the seat for maybe a minute or two, try again and it starts straight away. If it is going to start, it starts on the button. If it isn't, then no amount of turning over will make it start. Also, if it's running, then it'll run happily until i switch it off. I've read plenty on the forum about dodgy seated relays, but not sure if these apply to the TDI. If it's an electrical problem, then it's clearly on a component or circuit that is only used when starting. Any ideas? Thanks. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 Replacing relay 109 is a good place to start, or if your handy with a soldering iron you could re solder the joints on the relay. Quote
BigRik13 Posted June 17, 2012 Author Report Posted June 17, 2012 Cheers - looking on eBay - is there any difference between the white 109's and the black 109's?Thanks, Quote
BigRik13 Posted June 17, 2012 Author Report Posted June 17, 2012 Also, where is this bad boy in the Haynes wiring diagram?Cheer. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 I don't have a Haynes manual but follow this link to get to the relays, the black relays are the older more troublesome one's http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?/topic/8810-relay-30-replacement/page__p__68423&do=findComment&comment=68423 Quote
BigRik13 Posted June 18, 2012 Author Report Posted June 18, 2012 Great stuff - my dash layout is as per Sniper's posts - thankfully that looks like the easier of the two,Relay ordered - will fit and test and report back. I'm driving the Sharan to Sweden in August and am ironing all these bugs out before they get me stranded on the autobahn! Thanks for help,R Quote
BigRik13 Posted June 22, 2012 Author Report Posted June 22, 2012 OK so I've taken a look tonight - the 109 already in the car is white, and the replacement I've got is grey. Despite having identical pin layout, the white relay is much large than the new one. Is that normal?Anyhow, I've swapped them over and it's starts happily, so I'll see how it goes for a while.Cheers,R Quote
