seatkid Posted May 30, 2012 Report Posted May 30, 2012 (edited) Thanks bigdave stat on order :wacko:On a 98 Tdi AHU(90bhp) and probably the AFN(110bhp) too, the water pump is independent of the cambelt and looks a bit of a pig to change, involves removing PS pump and unclipping/moving a/c pipes. Book time for changing the water pump is 2.5 hours IIRC. The thermostat is at the bottom front of the block and also requires PS pump to be removed as well as some intercooler pipework. I'm having my pump and stat changed at my dealer for £320. (independent £240) Remember to use G12++ or compatible coolant only as other type can chemically react with the standard coolant, gelling and blocking up the cooling system. a18nkd Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 when i done mine i got a kit which had belt, tentioner pully and a roller pully in it and then i was advised to do the waterpump too as putting the new tention on the old water pump can cause the bearing to start to leak mine was the AHU engine mk1 galaxy i needed a tool to put the correct tention on the tentioner i welded two screwdriver bits (small torx bits) to a shaft and used that to tention it just make sure you mark up all pullys so they are clearly visible it helps to put the car in 5th gear hope this helps Quote

Only PD engines have a cambelt driven water pump. Quote
gravesyt Posted May 31, 2012 Author Report Posted May 31, 2012 seatkid mine is a Afn 110 so the waterpump runs independant of cam belt still going to change it as i had the aux belt and tensioners done last year because of squeeling noise and the alernator pully was ok but still got the squeel (slightly) only when going into reverse Quote
