cugsy Posted May 23, 2012 Report Posted May 23, 2012 Hi again all. I had that relay 30 problem and fixed it but when I noticed the state of the wiring in the ignition harness and a crack in one of the coils I decided to get some replacements. I've swapped the relay and the coil - easy peasy.. But the wiring loom itself looks a bit complicated and more than the 30 minute job I thought. Some of it disappears under the battery compartment and down into the bowels. If I didn't need to use the car every day I'd give it a go. But if I bugger it up I'm scuppered. Anyway, I rang a couple of garages in Thetford and they either weren't interested or said I'm looking at about 4 hours labour. Which adds up to about Quote
octo0072000 Posted May 24, 2012 Report Posted May 24, 2012 you want a auto electrician not a garage but if it's all working ok just retape the wires with good quality electrical tapeNOTE if you remove the battery tray you need to jack up the gearbox to support it those bolts that go through the tray hold the gearbox up as well Quote
cugsy Posted May 24, 2012 Author Report Posted May 24, 2012 Thanks for the heads up on the battery tray. Its an automatic - still apply? The car starts fine, first time etc but there are some cracks in the insulation and I'm assuming the torrential rail we had contributed to the relay problem. I'll try and get hold of an auto leccy.. octo0072000 Posted May 24, 2012 Report Posted May 24, 2012 the cracks in the wiring is a known fault on gals worst parts are tailgate loom and all the door looms between door pillers and door see http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?/topic/10371-galaxy-door-boot-wiring-inspection-repair/ battery tray is same with auto you have an oil cooler and more water pipes under there as well :) B) Quote
