Pannier_Tank Posted May 22, 2012 Report Posted May 22, 2012 Having just replaced the drive shafts I decided to change the gearbox oil on my 2002 1.9TDi 6 speed box. I went to Halfords for ESD-M2C186-A but they said they didn't stock it!! Funny I can find MT75 online. Went to a local Interpart who gave me EP80. Since then I noticed the gear changes are not so smooth when its cold. It was always a bit notchy. Have I got the corerect oil, especially as I'm driving to Cornwall on Saturday. Thanks PT Quote
chrispb123456 Posted May 22, 2012 Report Posted May 22, 2012 EP80 is completely wrong it should be fully synthetic 75W/90 but would recommend the proper ford spec oil which is not available elsewhere. Quote
Pannier_Tank Posted May 22, 2012 Author Report Posted May 22, 2012 So something like Castrol Driveline Syntrax Universal? Quote
Pannier_Tank Posted May 22, 2012 Author Report Posted May 22, 2012 Getting confused now by all the options. My handbook gives the spec as ESD-M2C186-A, which the Coma MT75 conforms to. None of my local shops can help and I'm not having much luck with Google. Do I go with a Castrol 75W/90 fully Synthetic or stick with ESD-M2C186-A Coma MT75. Getting desperate as I need to sort it by Friday. HELP Please! Quote
sparky Paul Posted May 22, 2012 Report Posted May 22, 2012 You should go with Chris's suggestion above. The oil for the VXT75 gearbox is a synthetic 75W-90, but with additives - the genuine Ford oil is the best stuff to use. Failing that, look for something which conforms to the same spec. Quote
alan_131 Posted May 22, 2012 Report Posted May 22, 2012 (edited) Understand why you would expect to be able to use an oil that complies with the standard and this might well be perfectly ok - sure it would be better than what you have in there at the moment, maybe perfectly ok - after all that's what standards are for. But if it were my money, I'd follow crispb123456's advice even if it was more expensive - it's going to be in there a long time, and I don't believe he'd suggest it unless he thought it was justified - and you don't get that forum guru label by giving duff advice... alan_131 Posted May 22, 2012 Report Posted May 22, 2012 Sorry sparky Paul - writing very slowly and didn't see your post till after mine. So there's the explanation why chrispb123456 says use the ford stuff... Pannier_Tank - I'd rely on these guys opinions.... Quote
Pannier_Tank Posted May 25, 2012 Author Report Posted May 25, 2012 Thank you all for your help. Got the proper stuff from the Hendy E shop. Cracking service & next day delivery. PT Quote
