Galaxy Mk 1, 1.9 Tdi Gearbox Same As Petrol ?

Hi all,

 

New to here, just bought a nice little 96 tdi Sharan Carat with gearbox issues, found the bolt snapped in the selector mech and also lots of metal bits at bottom of box.

 

So, needing a box for this, but are they the same as any of the petrol models.

 

Any info would be much appreciated, or a box for sale.

petrol engine revs more than the diesel box maybe the same but diff ratio will differ best trying to get one from a tdi

I think Octo0072000 is right - best to go for unit from TDI. Haynes says the ratios on the higher gears are different....so even if they are physically interchangable a box from a petrol engine vehicle won't be ideal... Edited May 20, 2012 by alan_131

A petrol autobox wont fit in a diesel Galaxy .

 

Not only are the ratios and final drive gearing different , but the bellhousing mounting bolts will not line up as they are in different places on the petrol autobox.

 

You need to find a diesel box . :D
