Smoke From Front Air Vents.

hi all. my galaxy 52 plate 1.9tdi is having a bad day......

 

first the car was over heating on the red but not smoking.... ? then small amounts of smoke coming out of front air vents, with air con off and heating off... but now when the car gets to right temperature the smoke kicks in... it's like someone blowing fag smoke onto the inside of front windscreen.... but now when turn heating on, (hot) lots of smoke comes out. what can this be...

Smoke as in burning or steam, are the windows steaming up if it's steam first check the air intake under wipers and make sure rain waters draining away, if that's OK have you lost coolant as you may have a leaking heater matrix.

i don't think it's smoke... could be steam as windows do steam up a lot.... when the engine is off the smoke still rising.

 

it does have a funny smell to it... not a burning smell....

Have a feel around the tunnel carpet see if that's also wet, and as previously said check scuttle drains are clear.

Or you may have heater matrix leaking coolant/antifreeze, this is what normally smells.

 

If the matrix is leaking and can't be stopped by using K-Seal then removal of the heater unit is required which in turn means removing the whole dash/facia.

just went to check you car has fain stopped..... lol

 

found that collant was below the minimum level and passenger side under footwell felt wet.... only a little smoke came out at full power on hot with engine at mid temp...

 

also when heater on hot blowing at max, comming out cold.... same with the middle heater....
