hi im new to this site and im in need of help. im having problems with the water in my expantion tank it seems to always be under presure. everytime i look under the bonnet the water is alway low hardly anythine in the tank when i open the tank it lets all the air out and then is back to the right level. towing a caravan friday and the temp light came on and the gadge went up full. pulled over and the water in the tank was boiling over. had someone to tow the caravan for me and the car was fine. havent boiled over since. changed the coolant and still under presure had new water pump nine months ago could it be the thermostat. gratfull for any help

my car is a 2001 galaxy 1.9tdi 115ps i took cap of expantion tank noticed top hose the return pipe was only trickling water back in the tank it seemed realy slow his this right. all help is much appreciated

I had the same symtoms while towing my trailer tent on the motorway, temp light came on temp gauge went to full... undid the water filler cap and it was under pressure blew a load of air out(steam everywhere lol), luckily i had some water i slowly poured some in after letting it cool for about half an hour and it took about 2 litres so boiled quite a bit...

cut a longer story short (mechanics humming and arring etc) it was the head gasket got it sorted but wasn`t cheap and its been fine since...

yeah they skimmed the head it also needed a new cam, off top of my head with all the parts required gaskets oil etc it was
