stevechesterfield Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Hi I hope someone with more knowledge can help me!I have just purchased a 1999 Galaxy 2.3 auto 133000 miles petrol. Everything seems to work great on the car except......when stating from cold and setting off it takes a few seconds for the gear to engage and then it 'thumps'into first then into second then drives normal to top gear. this goes on for around 10 minutes until it warms up and then there is only a slight delay, usually waiting to set off at the traffic lights! The rest of the box is fine. I know there is a slight delay when selecting from forward to reverse(some sort of safety mechanism to stop you crashing the box) but it sa lot more pronounced than that. Is it a fluid shortage? or is it more sinister than that.......any advice would be appreciated thanks Steve Quote

When purchased two years ago it had the symptoms you describe. I was advised to have the gear box fluid replaced. The gear box is designed for the fluid to last the life of the car so it is difficult to do this. I had it done at a small local garage for Quote

chrispb123456 Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 Just to add my bit I also changed fluid and was initially good after but then gradually slipped back to how it was, just had the box rebuilt, total cost Quote
