Hello All,

I`ve just bought a 1998 2.3 Petrol GLX really cheap, with a few problems but no manuals!!!

Problem 1 - engine didn't start, a friend and I fixed this infront of the lady I had just bought it from, by shorting the relevent pins on Relay 30. I have now re-soldered relay 30, and she starts every time! Yay!

Problem 2,3 & 4 - I beleive these are all related - The Cigarette lighter socket doesn't work - the AC button doesn't light up when pressed & there's a strange button that doesn't light up. Sorry for the poor description, but I really have no idea what it is. It's on the top left of the centre console, there are 3 buttons - the bottom 2 appear to be front & rear de-misters (they work), the top one however, looks like floor heating or something, but it doesn't light up.

I`d really appreciate any help on these issues. I`ve done some searches on here but didn't see anything - sorry if these issues have been discussed before.

As said, I don't have a manual, so I don't know what all the fuses & relays do.

Frank.

Problem 2 - Cigarette lighter - likely to be a blown fuse.

Problem 3 - A/C light not coming on when pressed - the fan needs to be turned to at least position 1, otherwise likely to be low or no gas in the a/c system. Might just need refilling (~£35 at kwikfit) or it may have a leak.

Problem 4 - Do you have manual rear heater controls mounted in the roof lining over and to the left of the passenger seat? IIRC the button on the dash is a master on/off for the rear heater but only comes on when the rear heater fan is turned on on those roof controls.

round button by itself is the rear fan master switch which is behind panel at the left side on row 3 seats. the speed control and temp is just above rear passenger door near front. make sure that temp is in blue for a/c

Problem 3 - When switching the fans on, the AC light comes on too. But no sign of the compressor kicking in, I`ll check with my local garage, to get it re-gassed/look for leaks.

The indicator coming on with the fan is normal, sounds like you may need regassing as seatkid said earlier. If regassing shows a leak, the common failure point on the mk.I system is where the aluminium aircon pipe runs under the chassis member at the front of the o/s wheel arch.

Problem 4 - Yes, two controls. One fan speed, the other temp. Neither seem to do anything though, not sure what I`m looking for though. It was dark, but I could only see vents down by the handbrake, and some by the rear door.

When you push the round button on the dash, you should here the rear blower start - the fan speed and temperature can be adjusted with the controls above the door. The vents near the handbrake come from the front blower, the other vents in the rear compartment are from the rear heater.

Hi Frank

Im in a similar situation, just bought an 02 galaky 2.3 petrol, again no manual. i cant download one from anywhere but just got a Seat Alhambra one

cig lighter didnt work, i didnt have a manual but search and search and found an answer on this site

Fuse 7 25amp need to be replaced

There is on the top left a button with P on it for parking assist

when presses it lights and a sound is heard

if you walk around your car and hold your ear next to the sensors you hear them click

Although

all 4 of mine on the front click but only 2 of the 4 at the back click

whether i move backward or forward our parking assist does not work

the control box is under the passenger seat, hasnt got water damage which sometimes is caused by a joint for the washer to the back window

so we need more attention to ours

Hope this helps
