Guitarman Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 I bought a 97 Ford Galaxy last week and have been using the forums to attack a few common problems (door wiring, drivers door lock spinning). I have searched for a solution through the board directly and google but can't seem to find the answer..... I got two keys with the car - the red one and a black one with just a torch. Did all models have remote central locking? I want to be able to remote lock (so I can replace door handles) so what are my options? Thank you in advance. Quote

I'm not sure if the 97 Galaxy came with remote central locking, if not, you can always get an aftermarket remote locking kit fitted. Quote

Do you know if I will I be able to verify whether it has remote central locking by seeing if it has the receiver and if so where would it be? Quote

So does this mean you can just program the fob regardless of the fact the key is for a different vehicle? If so, this sounds like a cost effective solution to me. Quote
sparky Paul Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 (edited) You can code remotes to the car, but you must have the right type - there are a few different types of the RF remote keys mentioned above, and I suspect that yours will have the early Infra Red system, which is completely different. Some cars were not fitted with remote locking, it depended upon trim level and options fitted. If your car was not originally fitted with central locking, adding the remote will not work as the car is missing the relevant hardware. It's not difficult to add an aftermarket remote locking kit, all the necessary wiring is available in the rear jack storage cubby hole. Edited March 4, 2012 by sparky Paul Quote
jamesey Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 If you try and find the remote locking module, or does your car have infared sensors in the roof near the interior lights, the key you need is printed on the central locking control module, I don't know where that is sorry Quote
jason.p Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 My 2000 Galaxy Zetec did not have remote locking as standard so I fitted an aftermarket system from Ebay. Seems to work OK. Quote
