sharalaxy Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 I have a little problem with my 2.0 TDCI the engine management light comes on under hard acceleration through the gears normally when overtaking dropping down to 3rd then up to 4th and 5th I then notice the light on and I'm in limp mode this has happened 5 times now, been into Ford to be fixed as it's under warranty still but they say no error code was stored and couldn't find any fault.I have bought an Elmscan 5 to check the fault codes myself and even though I had it do it 3 times over the weekend no error codes are stored.I have booked it into Ford again but how are they going to fix it if no error codes are being stored?Does anyone have any idea why no codes are being stored when there is something for sure that is happeneing. I also have another fault which may or may not be related the car judders at speeds in between 1250 and 2000RPM sometimes when it's cold other times when it's hot no fixed pattern here some days it's awfull and does it almost all the time other days it hardly does it at all, it feels like it'son kangaroo juice as they say. sharalaxy Posted February 22, 2012 Author Report Posted February 22, 2012 im wondering if theres a clutch problem/dmf ? Hi thanks for the replies, I'll try to describe it as best I can I feel that when it's doing it that it is almost in too high a gear if you can imagine putting your car in 3rd gear and then letting it freewheel down to tickover the feeling is like that sort of power on power off momentarily if it were petrol I would say it's almost missfiring. The clutch itself is very smooth in operation and noiseless and the gearbox is as smooth as silk which I think is unuseual. The main issue I have is that I know something isn't right but for some reason it doesn't store any error codes the dealer is very helpful but haspointed out Ford do not want to put parts on under warranty unless there is an error code to show what is wrong, the workshop manager took my car home last time it was in hoping it would do it but it decided not to at that time. Why would my car not store error codes when the malfunction light comes on and it goes into limp mode? Thanks for the help any idea's more than welcome. Quote
buford_t_justice Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 I experienced exactly the issues you described last October. At first no fault codes stored but eventually it did when I drove to dealership with fault live and did not switch off until they had connected their laptop to it. Fault was traced to excess carbon build in turbo which was preventing certain boost levels being delivered and so it would automatically go into LIMP home. My dealer at the time spoke with Ford technical who advised a heat cycle of the turbo to burn off this excess carbon (this involved a drive of 45mins with revs in excess of 4000rpm - I kid you not!). I expected to return to garage and find the car in bits after that but to my surprise it did work and I could notice an improvement in driveability after this. Quote
gregers Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 is this due to the dpf issues then, clogging up? Quote

Gosh so the Ford dealers drove it at those RPM's for you and after that everything was fine? If so did it stop it for good or did it come back anytime later? When you say exactly the same issues was that both the malfuction light coming on and the juddering at low RPM's?also what did you have to do to make sure it didn't happen again? Many thanks for your help. :-) Quote

I used BP Ultimate diesel for best part of 55k miles and that didn't keep the carbon down enough to stop this. Quote
stuandshell316 Posted July 1, 2012 Report Posted July 1, 2012 Hi i have just recently bought a galaxy and the engine management light came on which was down to soot build up in the turbo like buford said they cleared it out by driving it at 4000 rpm in 4th gear i think and it cleared it but for some reason its happened again and now the orange light is on all the time any ideas.
