steve.cafc Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 Hello All, I have a 2002 Alhambra 1.9 TDi, I'm in the process of repairing my electric water pump. When I switch off the ignition to check if the electric pump is working I noticed that the cooling fan span very briefly then stopped, I can hear a relay click when the fan switches on/off. Are the electric pump and cooling fan on the same circuit, If the pump failed would the fan then not operate, or do I have a problem with my fan as well as my electric water pump ? My pump is definitely broken as I have used a voltmeter to confirm power to the pump for about 3 minutes after ignition off. Thank you for your time, best Regards Steve. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 The electric pump is powered from the fan control relay (430) R5 Quote
chrispb123456 Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Not heard of the pump interfering with the fan but would suggest fixing the pump and go from there. Quote
steve.cafc Posted February 20, 2012 Author Report Posted February 20, 2012 Hello, Thank you for your quick reply. With regards to my cooling fan, is it worth buying a new temperature fan switch or could the relay be at fault? Should the fans run on after use, or am I paranoid, I know the electric pump should work for a few minutes, and I just assumed that the fan does as well? Best Regards Steve. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Assuming you have got climate control and set on auto the cooling fans should be running all the time engines running, you may have a problem with the sensor but would be worth scanning with Vagcom and see if any faults stored Quote
