PG TIPS Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 (edited) Hi all, I'm new to this forum AND new to owning the Galaxy! Disappointed to see Haynes have not produced a manual for the MK2 model as mine is a LX 2002 51 reg which has a few problems! Long story short, I bought it second hand and should have been more savvy! But I need to know whether I can try to fix certain problems myself! :) All the doors can lock except for the rear passenger door on the left side of the car. Any ideas how I can fix it? The two passenger doors also don't open from the inside at all although they do open from outside! Just today the driver's door handle came off in my hand and I'd appreciate any advice on how I can fix/replace that myself? I'd like to keep the lock barrel in and put a new handle on it. Would this link help? http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?/topic/8255-remove-exterior-door-handles-mk-ii/page__p__62607__hl__door+handle__fromsearch__1#entry62607 The air con system in the front is simply not working - no hot or cold air. The buttons to heatup the front and rear windows definitely work,so I can clear the mist away no problem. I'm looking to hopefully restore this car as I get the feeling the previous owner didn't take GREAT care of it! Hopefully someone can help me!:) Edited February 19, 2012 by PG TIPS Quote

PG TIPS Posted February 19, 2012 Author Report Posted February 19, 2012 Yep, I've been searching forums to find solutions which is how I found the link to the door handle. Currently using firefox as well! :) I'll have a look at the FAQ section now. Quote
PG TIPS Posted February 19, 2012 Author Report Posted February 19, 2012 Matts door card removal is good except I'm trying to get the rear one off - window crank handle is in the way. How can I get it off?:) Quote
sparky Paul Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 window crank handle is in the way. How can I get it off?:) The winding handle has a collar at the base, slide it out away from the direction the handle is pointing, and then pull the handle off the spindle. Quote
PG TIPS Posted February 19, 2012 Author Report Posted February 19, 2012 ^^^Thanks for the tip! I managed to get a closer look to see why the rear left passenger door doesn't open or lock - turns out a wiring rod that should be wired up to a small cylinder shape part (clips onto metal handle behind the card cover) snapped off! Not sure how to fix that other than look for a replacement part? I haven't found tips on here to fix this one so far, so any help appreciated! :) Quote
PG TIPS Posted February 21, 2012 Author Report Posted February 21, 2012 Put the car through an MOT yesterday which failed as expected: Offside headlamp aim beam image obviously incorrect Offside front coil spring incomplete Anyone have any idea how much these two might cost? Trying to ffind the best prices going.:) Quote
sparky Paul Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 If you haven't got round to these yet... Headlamp could be anything from needing adjustment to a failed reflector requiroing headlamp replacement. A pair of KYB springs is around Quote
seatkid Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 (edited) Regarding the non locking rear passenger doors - this may be simply the common "broken wires in door rubber gaitor" - there are 3 threads in the technical FAQ with full details of how to fix these. pearly king of surbiton Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 (edited) if the shock is incomplete, you need to find out from the mot centre what is missingremember shocks must be replaced in axle pairs.headlight allignment is not a diy job, but check first the bilbs are correctly seated in the holdersa tyre fitter is probably the cheapest souce if they need replacing, its not really a diy joball the bestjohn Edited February 28, 2012 by pearly king of surbiton Quote
sparky Paul Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 It's an incomplete coil spring that PG TIPS has, not shocker - probably snapped the top coil off. It is advisable to replace in pairs, but not mandatory, and garages will often only replace the broken one. Personally, I would do both, or do the other one as soon as possible, but there you go. My MOT tester is happy to adjust the headlights during the test, if needed, FOC. Quote
