ade Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 i'm replacing the driveshafts and need to check the oil level. Went to halfrauds and they sold me a litre of GEAR OIL MT75, which has a spec of ford ESD-M2C186-A. Is this the same as the haynes manual spec of WSD-M2C200-C? Quote
daddyfixit Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 mt75 oil is for ford gearboxes----usually dealer or the likes of GSF OR EUROCARPARTS would be better ??? Quote
ade Posted February 11, 2012 Author Report Posted February 11, 2012 so the mt75 would be ok to use then? also halfords is alot closer for me Quote
chrispb123456 Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 Looking in the MK1 handbook for manual transmission it says, ESD-M2C186-ASo Halfords are right Quote
seatkid Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 AFAIK all mk1s MANUALS were fitted with the excellent Ford MT75 box - not certain about the VR6 though Of course the AUTO boxes were Jatco and r3quire completely different oil. Mk2 diesels had VW boxes, dont know if the ford engines or VR6 also had these. Quote
sparky Paul Posted February 11, 2012 Report Posted February 11, 2012 From what I can work out, ESD-M2C186-A is the original spec. for the mk.1, and is coloured red. WSD-M2C200-C (XT-M5-QS) is a newer Ford synthetic 75W-90 spec. which is honey coloured. You see both oils specified for the MTX75, Ford changed to the newer spec. around 2000 to improve cold shifting I believe. Quote
ade Posted February 11, 2012 Author Report Posted February 11, 2012 cool.. thanks everyone for the help B) Quote
mikej Posted February 12, 2012 Report Posted February 12, 2012 Hi ade i know it's a bit late but after chasing the correct gear oil for the ford manual box for many years now i settled for the Castrol Syntrans 75w-90 this was recommended by the Ford guys after alot of digging and phoning around etc. It ain't cheap and quite difficult to find, had mine through Amazon eventually.Anyway mine is a mk2 2.3 2001...Mike...
