NikpV Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Hi all I know it's a little late but "HAPPY NEW YEAR" I've got a question for you. I've noticed sometimes not all of the time but when I put the pedal down either on the express way or motorway I can feel the turbo kick in and then it feels like the boost just stops and it want kick in again until the engine has been switched off and restarted.. Any ideas what this could be and if so how can I fix it on the cheap? Thanks ACD 99% probability that this is coked up variable vanes on the turbo (VNT turbo) ... engine management senses overpressure tryng to adjust the vanes and drops into limp home mode to protect itself I have this (auto 115Ps) 152000 miles itdoesnt happen all the time and usually when the turbo is cold - there is a cheap fix lo but you have to take the turbo off and clean it - its not meant to be servicable part and I think the cost new is Quote
aafs Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 The turbo can be an issue but before you do that check the other things like the Air Flow Sensor ( MAF ). It's a common fault but if you haven't cleaned out the turbo sooner or later you will have too unfortunately. There is a host of other things that can cause lack of power , get a proper diagnostic check done and before you do that check for split intercooler pipe or surrounding pipes that are turbo related. Sorry for late reply I'm new to the forum but I've had this problem with my car also hope you've sorted it out now anyhow. Quote
zorgman Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 aafs.do us a favor get rid of your interests as its taking up loadsa page space when your using a netbook. its not the maf causing it as everyone blames ut boost pressure over or under. heres a link to have a good read up on it but youneed a reading first.http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/multi/limp-mode-TDI-fix.htm Quote
richj Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 I had this problem on my 52 plate 1.9tdi, before you start stripping the turbo charger, try filling your car with 6 of your biggest mates or pop down b&q and fill the car with a dozen bags of sand, then give it a good run up the nearest motorway making sure you slow down then accelerate hard again over and over again winding the turbo up each time, this will get the turbo really hot and clean off all the crap on the vanes. aafs Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 Thanks for the advice I know these cars are suspect to carbon deposits on the vanes , I'm not shy of giving the old girl a thrash ! I got the car stripped out to see if the inlet manifold was clogged up ... And to my surprise it wasn't too bad at all , after several hours at the mechanics they insisted that it was the turbo at fault . Now I've allready put a brand new spanking turbo a few days earlier and I was quite frustrated as my problem was still here . Mechanic said my MAF and boost sensor was ok , but I was doubtfull as I had this problem prior to changing the turbo, feeling like a rabbit WTF?!!! I decided the only thing left to do is change the sensors as the fault was electrical , I used to buy Euro car parts for my Air flow meter as the price was affordable , so after spending a small fortune what's the point in cutting corners now ? So off I went to VW to get original parts as ford are alot more expensive , ( ford galaxy is all VW under the bonnet anyway! ) Quote
new nige Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 what car is it? if mk1 check vagcom, if 00575 check hoses, possibly small hose in ecu ref previous posts. Quote
