paulandsue Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Hi all My Galaxy will not demist even with the air con on full, the longer the trip the worse it gets. The back is worse than the front but still gets very bad. Anyone got any ideas on whats wrong and or how to fix it?? Quote
daddyfixit Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 is your screenwash working, or are you having to top it up all the time ??? if so then possibly the screenwash pipe that runs along the passenger side, under the carpet (next to the inner sill) has separated----very common and it soaks all the sound deadening under the carpets. there is a plastic joiner, the pipes need super-gluing back onto it. Torq Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Hi all My Galaxy will not demist even with the air con on full, the longer the trip the worse it gets. The back is worse than the front but still gets very bad. Anyone got any ideas on whats wrong and or how to fix it?? As the car heats up any moisture will become airborne and condense on the colder windows. Go for a long drive with the heat up full, at the first sign of fogging open the rear popout windows and the front passenger window by about 1/2inch. The air flow should push all the moist air out the rear wiindows. Took 40miles to dry mine out but she's dry as a bone now. T Quote
chrispb123456 Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Heater matrix leaking maybe, has the coolant level dropped in the bottle? or are you constantly topping up. Quote
gregers Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 pollen filter soaked or missing, leak from the windscreen?? Quote
KFA Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 I have the same problem in my Mk1 Ghia 2.8. The car is unsafe to drive in this weather, especially at night. I have no leak from the screenwashers or the heater.I have fitted an electric fan to the dashboard on the drivers side (Coopers of Stortford) but it is not powerful enough. I understand that the air conditioning takes the moisture out of thre incoming air and if it is not working then the windscreen will not demist even with the heater on full. My air conditioning no longer works and I am considering spending the considerable sum needed to sort it out. The car has done 175K but still goes well. I have been told that if you drive with the front windows open a litlle and the heater on with the airflow directed to your feet the windscreen will clear but I have not tried it yet. Another suggestion is that the pollen filter may need clearing or replacing to improve the airflow. Using anti mist impregnated cloths on the inside of the windscreen was worse than useless. If you find the answer please post it. KFA Quote
marinabrid Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 in same boat, i have no leaks from pipe or heater , have put new pollen filter in, air con works fine, but when it gets cold ,the inside is misted up, i go then and start car and run with aircon on before i can drive away, then when i park up, if its cold outside it steams up while im away, i have left windows open a bit but it still steams up. so sit in car 5 mins demisting before i can drive off. i tried it without aircon, cold air inside car, i get somehwere, leave car, steams up again, very odd goings on. MrT Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Two things have caused this for me in the past, failing air con and also leaves building up under the bonnet each side at the bottom of the windscreen. If the leaves are left here they form a mulch which blocks the drainpipes at the back of this area which run down to the wheel arches. If you have climate control, it must be on auto as in econ mode it will not clear the windows at this time of year. Quote
