Galaxy newbie Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 (edited) as above guys. Was coming home the other night with the heated screen on and noticed whispers of smoke coming from the instrument cluster ahhhhhhhhhhh panic. Anyways got car home and after checking bits and some research noticed the front heated screen wasn't working. So proceeded to check the fuses and have just found a melted f27 50amp which goes to the heated screen. Now question is why the he'll has it melted the fuse. What can I do to sort the problem. Obviously a new fuse but I'm scared if it happens again I will end up burning the car out with an electrical fire. Please help. Thanks. Andy P.s. Had the screen replaced by autoglass about 5 weeks ago. Not sure if this has anything to do with it! Edited November 10, 2011 by Galaxy newbie Quote

Galaxy newbie Posted November 10, 2011 Author Report Posted November 10, 2011 So what should I be checking. Would it be the earthily strip that runs to the clock in the roof? I don't know where to start?? Quote
seatkid Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 (edited) I would phone autoglass, tell them you had the windscreen changed and the first time you used the heated element, the fuse blew, indicating the windscreen was installed incorrectly. See what they say. Pointless you trying to fix what could turn out to be an expensive fault that autoglass have given you. Edited November 10, 2011 by seatkid Quote
seatkid Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 Is this the 1st time you used the heated screen since autoglass changed it? If yes then I would phone autoglass, tell them you had the windscreen changed and the first time you used the heatead element, the fuse blew, incidating the windscreen was installed incorrectly. See what they say. Pointless you trying to fix what could be an expensive fault that they have given you. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 Hi AndyAs Seatkid said seems to much of a coincidence not to be associated with the screen. It may well be where the wiring has been disturbed has caused a problem, there are two live feeds one each side going to the screen and one earth behind the front interior light. Galaxy newbie Posted November 10, 2011 Author Report Posted November 10, 2011 I've also read on the ford Mondeo website that sometimes they replace the screen with a higher voltage screen, so I suppose it may be drawing to much current which has blown the fuse. I don't know will try autoglass in the morning and see what happens! Quote
