nigeldc Posted November 5, 2011 Report Posted November 5, 2011 Our 2006 Ford Galaxy is making a loud screeching noise when reversing or manoeuvring. It also makes a noise when turning while driving normally. There are no dashboard alerts. The mechanic believes it is the power steering pump. However the pump is apparently difficult to access and remove. Worse he can't tell the model of the pump until he strips the engine down. (I have used the same mechanic for many years on many cars and trust him.)_ I have read elsewhere on this forum about a similar sounding proble... http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?/topic/20594-power-steering-problem/ diagnosed as the alternator pulley problem. I have no idea what this is and cannot find a description or remedy. Any help here I'd be really grateful for as this is already sounding expensive! Regards Quote
chrispb123456 Posted November 5, 2011 Report Posted November 5, 2011 Hi and welcome to the forumAlternator clutch pulley is usually the culprit, this can be replaced but you will need the correct tool for undoing the bolt and it is extremly tight. You will probably see small particles of metal which has been thrown out around that area Quote
