bhbobhill Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 Hi AllComing down the motorway this afternoon my gauge went to three quarters I was doing just short of 70 in top gear. When I stopped I checked the water level, nothing wrong.I have only had this vehicle about 3 months and in that time it has always been very slow to warm up, I haven't checked but suspect the thermostat has been removed. The other thing is the heater never seems to get hot like in all other vehicles I have owned. Thoughts are head gasget. impeller on water pump, maybe radiator fans not kicking in, thermostat or any combination. What is the best way of narrowing this down.Your thoughts gentlemen & ladies. Many thanksBob Hill Quote

bhbobhill Posted November 5, 2011 Author Report Posted November 5, 2011 Hi ChrisIts a 1.9 tdi ANU on a 25plate.Had a run in it yesterday and the expansion bottle was showing it was gassing up.I think there is only one reason for this, plus maybe water pump as well. What sort of job is a head gasket, will I need to skim the head.If it is the head gasket I might as well change the pump, the belt and thermostat at the same time. Any ideas on cost for a garage to do. Parts will be about Quote
bhbobhill Posted November 5, 2011 Author Report Posted November 5, 2011 Mirez talks about a common fault in a previous posting, its a system of warming the water quicker then cooling the exhaust gasses at the same time. Can anybody expand on this and how to check it. From what he says its comes from the rear of the inlet or outlet manifold.RegardsBob Hill Quote
