Welcome

I can see the tech threads OK so not quite sure why its not working for you

in answer to your second question can a pose a question for you ??

what is the purpose of the transponder chip ??

answer

To stop scum stealing your prize and joy....

if there was a back-door to bypass the chip it would make the immobilizer pretty useless

as there are no working parts in the chip it could be your unit needs resetting to start working again.

also when you post questions could you include details of what car you have i.e. year, transmission, engine as there are many variations across the models

regards

I heartily recommend you use the "Adblock plus" add on with firefox. This gives you a beautifully ad-free experience when surfing the internet. To install, go to Tools, Add-ons. This is the number one reason to go with firefox!

my appologies for not mentioning model 2001 Ford (VW) Galaxy 115 TDI PD ANU (for some reason i thought it would show as when you register it asks you vehicle particulars)

now using firefox and its working bang on!!!

VAG cars have a safety feature so that when your sat in the piss rain cold and damp ready to drive home and get the family safe you can!! should the key chip fail/go awol so long as you know the SKC (security key code) it can be manually put into the dash and allow emergancy start rather than AA recovery!! i think its also possible to leave the ignition switched on for 15 mins without trying to start etc and this may allow the engine to start but i have yet to confirm this...

sadly the galaxy works a different way and i dont believe it has this function (may still work waiting 15 mins thou!). regarding VAG's quite how scum can use this information to steal your car is beyond me!! you MUST have the correct mechanical key to turn the ignition on so unless the scum are able to remove your door lock barrel and make a key to suit then i dont think scum will be driving your car anywhere! failing that scum would need to revearse power the revearse light switch multi-plug to turn the ignition on, then get the steering lock smashed off then using vag tacho see if its possible to code a transponder chip. now bump start and away you go (this is theory i have yet to try it!)

I've never heard of this "backdoor" and quite frankly don't believe it exists.

Your such a cynic http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/public/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif

Emergency start was a strange feature available on early VAG cars with their new IMMO immobilsier. it was heavily phased out when VAG revised the system for IMMO2 and then completely removed when they went to IMMO3 due to increasing safety concerns and thatchman security requirements. Since the Mk1 Sharan/Alhambra are IMMO2 then there is a small possibility it would support emergency start (only if you have the SKU handy) however since the Galaxy didn't take the IMMO immobiliser system and opted for Ford's own PATS system, that's why no such thing exists on the Gal.

Even found some details of how to do it from an old reference doc ;)

Worth someone giving it a shot but I really do doubt either the Sharan or Alhambra support it.

Emergency start function

NOTE* You must have the 4 digit SKC! 1. Turn ignition on.

2. Twist clock set knob on the instrument cluster clockwise while pressing the odometer reset knob.

3. If okay, the odometer should show "0000".

4. The first digit will be blinking, use the reset button to turn it 1-9. Twist the clock knob to select and move to the next digit and so forth to enter the secret key code (SKC)

5. When the code is entered, twist the knob and press the reset button at the same time to enter it in. If it's right, then the immobilizer should still be on but the car will start. If it's wrong, you have 3 total chances or else it will lock out this function for at least 10 minutes and it will display "FAIL". Each 3 times you put in a wrong code, it will double the lock out time to a maximum time of 254 minutes.

6. If you don't press any buttons for 30 seconds it will stop and you have to shut the car off and back on to reset the procedure.

The emergency start function is not operable again and must be reactivated if:

- 5 minutes have elapsed since the ignition was switched off and the ignition key removed from the ignition lock.

- 45 minutes have elapsed since the ignition was switched off, but an ignition key remained inserted in the ignition lock.

- Upon beginning an adaptation function with VAG 1551.
