lowbo69 Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 Hi Guys, Just after some info regarding Cambelt tensioner. I purchased my Galaxy around March 2011 and the cambelt had just been changed in the January. Someone who was working on my vehicle happened to mention he thought my tensioner was at the end of it's travel and I may need the belt looking at! The belt is in good condition but the tensioner is at one end. Now I do not know whether it needs adjusting or it is at it's full travel so any help would be grateful. See pic for position. Cheers, Rich. Quote
Mirez Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 (edited) That's the serpentine (Auxiliary) belt, not the cam-belt :P It's near the end of its travel I suppose but its most likely a new belt would fix that rather then replacing the tensioner. Do you have any squealing noises? Power steering jerky feeling? "Alternator Workshop" msg? etc? You should also check its the right belt and that its been correctly routed as some garages seem to screw up this simple job! Edited October 4, 2011 by Mirez Quote
lowbo69 Posted October 4, 2011 Author Report Posted October 4, 2011 Aahh nice one Mirez, Funny you should mention it, I do now have a squeeling/ hissing noise especially when engine is under load, and accelerating It has only started recently and it does sound a bit like air leakage, but I suppose it could well be the Aux belt?? No other symptoms you mentioned though.I'm getting it checked out next week, and I'm glad you pointed out which belt it is Lol :P Cheers again. Quote
ggobin Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 Hi. I had the same problem and turned out to be a faulty alternator clutch pulley. Originally changed the tensioner. It's worth checking that especially if you have squealing sounds. Thanks Quote
zorgman Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 wouldnt get them to look at it again then will you as it seems he knows nowt about your car. how can you mistake a cambelt for a serpintine belt as i dont know one car that uses one belt for cams and alt Quote
