Galaxy Rear Caliper Slider

Hi,

 

Investigating the gringing noise from the rear brakes on my Mk2 Alhambra, I've found that one of the sliders (the bit that seems pressed into the carrier) has copmpletly rusted up and in trying to loosen it I've managed to shear it off. Does anyone know how to remove the slider part from the rear caliper carrier? Is it a case of hitting the protuding lip with a punch to force it out (although it seems too corroded in for that) or is there some other clever method. All this, of course, is assumuing that it is replacable in the first place.

Hi and welcome to the forum

If the pins are seized that bad and if the small rubber gaiters have perished I dont think you have any choice only to replace with a new or secondhand caliper carrier, good brakes are an essential item dont cut corners here.

I had this happen on my mk2 a few years a go. You have to get a new carrier - As I recall it was a frod/vw part and not too expensive

This one was listed as 51 euros so I suspect it would be in the region of

Does anyone know the part number for an off side rear caliper carrier for a 2001 Mk2 Alhambra TDi (268mm discs)? Are they sided as both sides look similar to me?

Seems to go on wheel rim size

15 inch 7M 0615424

16 inch 7D 0615425A

Thanks for that. Got a bit confused as I've got 16" rims (which I assume were fitted from new) but 268mm discs (these discs were married to 15" rims). Still, I'm looking for the 15" rim caliper carrier.
