Miles Left On Computer Goes Down To 0 Then Up?

hi I will be driving my galaxy and it will slowerly go down to 0 miles left on computer then slowerly go up again or if it go down to 0 then i turn engine off then on again it goes to over 50 odd? why is this and does it mean i have fuel left?

it picks up the fuel level from the fuel gauge and works it out with mpg to give you miles left so check the gauge next time it does it
