Glow Plug Light Flashing / Workshop

So im getting to the point where I regret purchasing this car.... Only having had it just over a year I have spent out on replacing the turbo, the exhaust pipe, general wear and tear (tyres / break discs and pads) and more recently the alternator....

 

Now I have another fault light which is the glow plug flashing & the workshop notice.

 

Ive read that it could have been something linked with the connection for the breaks, but my break lights are still working so I don't think this is the case.

 

Before I go out and replace the glow plugs... does anyone have any suggestions on what it can be???

 

The engine noise doesnt change when it comes on / the car has no problems starting, it comes on when I am stationary (Have turned the engine on but not started venturing off)

The glow plug light doubles as an engine management light, so it's telling you there's a fault on a sensor only problem is it don't tell you which one.

 

The brake light switch is a common culprit for this.

 

The only way to be sure is to run Vagcom this will pinpoint the fault.

 

The Vagcom lead is a good investment it can save you

ok, now im seeing quite a few - to ensure im about to purchase the correct one for my car do you know what im to look for?

 

(I am a woman that doesnt really understand these things! lol)

As I had read this before I checked.... sadly (well... not really but it would have been handy) they all work!

 

I should get that VAG cable tomorrow so hopefully this will tell me.

forgive me if i sound thick but will the vagcom lead in the link work on my year 2000 mk2 galaxy as it only mentions audi's vw's and skoda's in the discreption? i only ask because i'v brought things off ebay beliving they would fit my galaxy and it didnt so i really dont want to spend out on things that wont work

Your car is basically a VW with a Ford badge.

Vagcom is compatible with all the 1.9TDI's and the V6 petrol modules because they are VW engines, but is not compatible with the 2.0 % 2.3 petrol engine modules because they are Ford engines. However it will still work on other electrics on these cars.

There are few variant's the green highlighted text is fully compatable with vagcom

 

The red highlighted text is partly compatible,however you can interrogate things like air bag autogearbox,alarm,doors dash clocks essentially every thing bar the engine itself .

to interrogate the engine use ELM of course there are meny different scanners.

looks like it will work do you know if the mk1 door mirrors will fit the mk2 ? i know they are a different shape but are the mounting holes in the same place?
