Hi there, I drive 2003 Alhambra ( Same as Sharan) with 1.9 HP 130 HP motor, 105K miles on the clock. I have been using this car for the last year and half, during this time i have changed 7 drive boots. Both sides inner and outer have failed. The first three replacements were out of a motor factors but the remainder have been VW parts. Today before MOT test I see driver side inner has gone again. Can anyone suggest a reason for this as I am getting fed up replacing them. No obvious driveshaft or suspension issues to blame. Otherwise great motor.

That does seem very odd. My 1999 Gal also has 105K on the clock, and has never had a CV boot replaced, and they seem in good order. You might suggest that the replacements are of poor quality, even the main dealer parts, but 7 boots sounds a bit far fetched.

How are you fitting them, and how are they failing? Splits in the creases, or at the fixings?

The only good thing is that inner CV joints are not testable, according to my tester man.

guiness book of records ????

how about using one from eurocarparts??? will probably be a german make so should be ok???

mine on 147k (touch wood) cv boots ok---just eats tyres !!!

as of december, inner cv boots will now become a fail item.

Indeed...and a whole raft of other stuff.

What about biennial tests, what do you think of that idea? :lol:

100% disagree with the 2 year testing idea !!!

i see the heaps of badly-maintained scrap that appear to be tested yearly!! the arses are falling out of some cars so badly due to;

1...a lack of maintenance to the car

2...the r-sole behind the wheel that is so incompetant at even being safe/familiar with the car they drive!!

cars with bald tyres,broken springs,wishbones hanging off,snapped rear shockers--------------all thses items can be heard and felt by the driver, even passer-by can see a knackered tyre. but the car is still driven in that state until the car fails the mot test. "i didnt know,i didnt see,i didnt hear,i didnt feel" all the common replies when you tell the diver why its failed.

if such ignorant people can drive a car around for a year in a dangerous condition, giving them an extra year to do so will surely lead to accidents/deaths caused by mechanical failures ???????

dont be fooled that the goverment knows it will be a safe decision (how many of them are mot testers or mechanics ??) the only reason they have come up with the idea is so the motorist votes for them , because they saved him the price of an mot test..............

I agree with the first part of what you say but the main reason this is a good idea is because we are all fed up with rip off Britain and the MOT is so often a rip off with unscrupulous garages robbing us all blind and just using the MOT as a tool to charge for things that may not need doing. Self regulation works - up to a point. MOT muggers have gone past that point.

you have fallen into the "padded trap"; the one that says we are fed up paying for mot tests every year. the government WANT you to agree to it, thinking you are
